Match Report Culdaff V Carn

Carn FC                 3
Having been abandoned the previous Sunday due to adverse weather conditions this rescheduled game in Caratra Park on Thursday evening was played in  persistent rain. Despite the scoreline the home side will look back on this game thinking they had enough chances to have gotten something from the game.

The first opportunity fell to the visitors after poor defending from the home side allowed Cade Cooke a free header but he headed over. Culdaff replied and after good work from Jack O Brien on the left his cross was headed just wide by Michael Coyle from six yards. a Long range Aiden Cunningham free kick was then superbly saved under the bar by Carn custodian Daniel McDaid before O’Brien was unlucky when his powerful effort from twelve yards crashed off the bar.  Carn weather the storm and broke the deadlock in the 36th minute when again the home defence failed to clear and captain Lorcan Bradley finished clinically from ten yards past Puaric O’Donnell. Culdaff hads the first chance of the second half also with O’Briens snapshot well turned round the post by McDaid. At the other end a long free from Callum Kelly just eluded Ciaran O’Kane at the back post. The home side were pressing hard for an equalizer and an audacious attempted lob from thirty yards by Coyle drifted just wide of the post. But the home side were architects of their own downfall midway through the half when a misplaced clearance allowed Conor Mclaughlin to head over O’Donnell and double the visitors lead.  Culdaff tried to respond and a rasping Thomas O Brien effort was superbly saved at full stretch by McDaid. With the home side pressing Carn were dangerous on the break and Cian Burke was denied by an excellent save from O’Donnell. Ryan Kelly then hada header crash off the home crossbar before on the stroke of full time Ross Farren sealed the points for the visitors showing great composure inside the box to slot home from six yards. An entertaining game in front of a big crowd.
