History:
Soccer has been played in Greencastle since the early 1900’s with games being played in the early years at Milltown.
For a number of years post this period soccer ceased to be played and was not resumed until the late 1960’s. During this time the area was represented by the local side “Blue Peter’s”, named as such because of the area in which they played, namely St. Peter’s Point. Again another gap of 14 years appeared in the club’s history and it wasn’t until 1986 and the efforts of Thomas Lake that the club was reformed. It was also the first year they entered the Inishowen League with immediate success as the club became the 1986/87 3rd Division League Champions. At this stage the club played its football off the Poundtown Road. However, in 1994 the club, with the assistance of the FAS scheme purchased a site at Ballybrack and began construction in 1995 to build a two storey club house, a full size playing pitch and one National School underage pitch. Over the intervening years with continued growth and success Greencastle F.C. has been and will continue to be represented at all levels and age groups. The most recent development in the club’s history has been the construction of three astro turf pitches in 2008, which provide state of the art training facilities and are a significant addition to the club’s facilities.
