Inishowen Engineering Division Two A
Rashenny FC 2
Clonmany Res 5
This local derby on Wednesday evening saw the Clonmany side bounce back from their cup final defeat last weekend to clinch runners up and qualify for the promotion play off against Cockhill Res. Clonmany Reserves ran out deserved winners in this local clash in the Inishowen League, producing a dominant second-half display to overcome Rashenny by 5–2. The opening period was evenly contested, with both sides creating chances, but it was Rashenny who went in at the break with a narrow advantage. The first opportunity of the game fell to Anthony Doherty, who won possession inside the Clonmany box, only to see his deflected effort sail just over the crossbar.Clonmany responded at the other end when good work from Aaron Porter on the right wing released Tiernan McDonald but Rashenny goalkeeper Sam Coyle reacted quickly to block his effort. Rashenny made the breakthrough in the 23rd minute. Doherty again was involved, delivering a pass across the box for the onrushing Damien Friel, whose bobbling effort found its way past the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner. They nearly doubled their lead before half-time when Oran McDevitt’s clever turn created space behind the Clonmany defence, but his curling effort drifted wide of the net.
Clonmany came out with renewed energy after the break and quickly found an equaliser. Aaron Porter was again influential, crossing from the right for Thomas Comiskey, who guided the ball over the line. Momentum firmly swung in Clonmany’s favour soon after, as McDonald produced a moment of brilliance. Reacting to a loose ball some forty yards from goal, he unleashed a superb first-time strike that curled into the net to put his side ahead. Clonmany extended their lead on the hour mark. Porter, this time operating on the left, beat his marker before delivering a looping cross that Comiskey met first time on the volley, sending a precise low finish into the corner. Rashenny reduced the deficit on 65 minutes. A strong tackle high up the pitch by Cian McCloskey set Shane Cregan clear and he reversed a pass to Aaron Harkin, who controlled well and drove his shot into the net at the near post. However, Clonmany quickly reasserted control and finished the game strongly. McDonald grabbed his second of the match when he reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box, firing home emphatically. The final goal came late on when Darragh Porter’s pass over the top released his brother Aaron, who beat the advancing goalkeeper to the ball and calmly lobbed into an empty net.

The visitors began well and opened the scoring in the 7th minute after Marc Wallace despatched a penalty awarded for a handball to the top corner past Kyrin Doherty. Clonmany responded to this setback and almost equalised within a minute after a ball broke to Aaron Porter whose effort crashed off the post. But the visitors got on top after this with John McCloskey denied from close range by Doherty. McCloskey then released Owen Lynch on the right hand side of the area but he dragged his effort wide. They had another chance after Oran McColgan broke clear of the home defence but his effort was blocked by the legs of Doherty. Clonmany had the final chance of the half after Porter evaded a couple of challenged and when his cross broke to Tyler McEleney his effort was gathered by Lee McColgan . Clonmany were first to threaten after the break when substitutes Mark Mclaughlin and Ben Gill combined for the latters effort to be well turned around the post by McColgan. At the other end Josh Boyle advanced an his superb low cross just eluded McCloskey. The home side equalised on the hour mark when Porters corner was met with a firm downward header by jack Doherty past McColgan. The visitors respobded with a McCloskey effort palmed away by Doherty before they equalised on 72 minutes. Odhran McColgans initial shot crashed off the post but he reacted to slide the loose ball low to the corner. Play swung back to the other end then and from a Niall Mclaughlin left footed cross brother Mark headed wide when well placed. Clonmany then regained the lead on 82 minutes after a low corner delivery from Porter was sidefooted home by Niall Mclaughlin. The same player then spurned a good opportunity after he got on the end of a cross by Gill but failed to direct his effort on target. And the visitors grabbed a share of the spoils in the 88th minute when Boyle controlled a headed clearance following a corner twenty yards out but rifling a superb effort to the top corner.
