The visitors as expected proved too strong for the home side who battled well in the early stages defending stoutly. The first chance of the game arrived on 18 minutes when Lee McLaughlin crossed to Garbhan Friel whose header was gathered comfortably by Patrick McLaughlin. Stephen Duffy then advanced across the edge of the area before shooting narrowly wide.Just after the half hour Cockhill opened the scoring with Lee McColgan’s cross parried by McLaughlin for Duffy to poke the ball home from close range.

They then added three goals in an eight minute spell before half time all from Friel to grab a hat trick. Firstly he controlled well inside the area and had time to slot low to the corner. His second arrived when Luke Rudden headed a deep cross across goal where Friel headed over the advancing McLaughlin. Friel grabbed his hat trick when he finished brilliantly with a deft chip. The pattern continued in the second half with Rudden scoring with an overhead kick after McColgan had headed the ball back to him. The sixth arrived when a brilliant reverse pass from Rudden into the path of Duffy who fired in off the post. Damien Duffy scored the next with an excellent free kick , shown in the video above , before  Stephen Duffy grabbed his hat trick from the penalty spot , captured in the video below.  The final goal came in the closing stage after Rudden’s run and cross came off an unfortunate defender into the net.

Illies Celtic 3

Aileach FC 4

Aileach began this game at a frantic pace and took an early lead when PJ Millar beat three men before pulling the ball back to Caoimhin McFeely to drill low past Conor Doherty. Illies replied and when Paul Duffy fed Brendan Doherty he could only shoot straight at Eoin Callaghan. At the other end the visitors made  it two nil when Gavin Doherty found Darren McMonagle inside the area and he sidestepped a defender  before shooting low to the corner of the net. Illies then upped the tempo and Jamie McDaid fired one attempt over before another went narrowly wide. They got a goa back on the stroke of half time with Oran Doherty sending McDaid away on the left and his low cross was converted by Tadhg McDaid from eight yards. On 55 minutes the home side equalised after Paul Duffy held his man off and drilled low to the net from twelve yards.  But the visitors regained the lead midway through the second half when Keith  McColgan despatched a twenty  yards free to the roof of the net. Two minutes later however the home side were back on terms following Oran Dohertys corner when Brendan Doherty headed home at the back post. Illies then had a great chance to go ahead with Paul Duffy breaking clear but he was denied by the legs of Callaghan in the Aileach goal.On the stroke of full time the visitors grabbed all three points after a goalmouth scramble following McColgans corner led to Gavin Doherty squeezing the ball home from close range.

Clonmany Shamrocks 3

In an entertaining opening half in windy conditions play swung from end to end. The shamrocks had the first opportunity when Jason Devlin latched onto a flick on but fired across Taylor Clarke and past the far post. The home side replied with a dangerous Liam Quigley cross sliced over his own bar by a fortunate defender. A corner then fell to James Adair  but his snapshot was well saved by Johnathan Noone. In a quick break at the other end Devlins cross was voilleyed goal wards by Terence Doherty but Clarke reacted superbly to save. Clarke was also called into action in the last minute of the half saving a Ryan McColgan header from a corner. The Hearts had the first clear chance of the second period after a superb pass from Keelan Doherty inside the full back found Quigley who advanced into the area but Johnathan Noone advanced to make a superb smothering save. Midway through the half it was the visitors who made the break through when the ball fell to Terence Doherty inside the area and he curled an excellent finish past Clarke. Within minutes the Shamrocks had doubled their advantage after the home defence failed to clear a free kick and Aaron Porter finished superbly across Clarke and in off the far post. They completed the scoring in the final minute when Pearse McCarron raced clear onto a long ball and rounded Clarke before slotting home.

 

Carn FC 5

In what proved to be a personal triumph for the home sides Kyrin Cantwell , pictured left , who scored all five goals it was QPS went ahead in the opening minute when Mark Murray broke on the left  and crossed  for Darragh McIntyre who headed it to the bottom right corner of the net from twelve yards past Gerard Crossan in the home goal.

Carn levelled matters ten minutes later after  a Gerard Crossan kick out from goal came off a QPS  defender but Kyrin Cantwell was there to get the loose ball and he went one on one with QPS  keeper Jason McCallion and shot to the bottom of the net from twenty yards. Carn then had a great chance to take the lead midway through the half  when Ross Farren broke on the right  and crossed to  Cade Cooke who drove a powerful shot to the right  but narrowly wide.The home side then took the lead just before half time  after  a Ross Farren free kick on the left found Kyran Cantwell who beat the offside trap and slotted it past McCallion from ten yards. Cantwell completed his hat trick a minute later with Mark McLaughlin  rounding the defender and laid it off for Cantwell who drove a powerful shot to the top left corner of the net from outside the area. QPS had a great chance to pull one back when DJ Canavan made a great pass from midfield to Cillian McEleney who failed to hit the target with a clear sight of goal. The home side then made it four one after a long ball from  Ciaran O’Kane found Cantwell unmarked in the 18 yard box and slotted it past McCallion to the bottom right corner of the net. Carn missed a chance to increase their lead after  Cantwell was brought down in the penalty area and sub Michael McDermott’s penalty shot went  wide. But the home side added a fifth  when Mark McLaughlin made a great run on the right wing and crossed it for Cantwell who drove it to the top left corner of the net from fifteen yards to complete the scoring.

In an entertaining game at lakeside the home side exploded out of the blocks and grabbed a 7th minute lead when Dermot Doherty fired a penalty high past Hayden Boyle after Gavin Bradley was upended inside the area. They made it two nil on 16 minutes with Dohertys corner finding  Tom Doherty whose header crashed off the crossbar where James Wallace was first to react to slot home. The visitors rallied and Stephen McBride saw an effort deflected wide before they got a goal back.  Ethan Soal blocked down an attempted clearance and lobbed Lucas McGeady from the edge of the area in the 28th minute. Aileach had the final chance of the half on the stroke of half time when Bradley raced clear of the Hearts defence but saw his effort clip the outside of the post. Buncrana opened the second half well and got back on terms on 52 minutes when McBride latched onto a long ball before laying it off to Ethan Soal to finish low past McGeady. Buncrana then took the lead on the hour mark with Liam Duncan playing a one two before releasing Jack Soal  to fire to the bottom corner from the edge of the area. Aileach re grouped and levelled the game on 77 minutes after a mazy Conor McCahill run past three defenders ended with a cross to substitute Charlie Campbell to slot home. Minutes later the home side struck for what proved to be the winner with Dermot Doherty crossing from the right and when Sean McHughs header came off the crossbar Campbell was on hand to slot the loose ball home.

 

Sea Rovers 3

Gleneely Colts 0

Sea Rovers got an  early lead when a fine through ball from Ciaran Doherty  released Conor McCloskey  to shoot low past Nimai Osio in the Colts goal and open the scoring. Gleneely were very unlucky when Shane Diver beat the defence only to be denied by Rovers keeper Marc Mc Laughlin. McLaughlin was certainly on good form pulling of a number of good saves. Rovers got the last good effort before the break increasing their advantage after Conor McCloskey squared a ball across the box for Mathew Mooney to tap in from close range.  There were few chances in the second half at either end with defences well on top and a lot of the lay in the middle third of the pitch. But on 78 minutes the home side  sealed the points when Ciaran Doherty’s long ball found Liam Gallagher who fired a sweet volley past Osio to clinch the points.

Cockhill Res 1

Greencastle FC 8

Greencastle proved too strong for the young Cockhill side right from the start.

Greencastle raced into an early lead and were five goals  ahead at the break with a Jamie McCormick hat-trick, an own goal and one from Luke McFadden.

Jamie McCormick, who proved a handful throughout, got his fourth of the match minutes after the restart before Niall Breslin pulled one back for the home side. But the visitors  completed the scoring with two late goals from Seamy McLaughlin and Luke McFadden to run out emphatic winners.

 

Cockhill Youths 3

Dunree United 1

Unbeaten league leaders Cockhill Youths had to come from behind to grind out a hard fought victory over a Dunree side who are stuck at the bottom of the table. Dunree stunned the home side when they opened the scoring on 15 minutes after a Gerry Farrell free found Liam Baldrick to head past Darragh O Donnell. Cockhill had to wait until the 39th minute for their first clear sight of goal. A Ryan McDaid cross from the left found Paul Mullan whose flick header flashed just wide.  They levelled matters before half time after a PJ Doherty cut inside and when his effort was deflected it fell into the path of Darragh McDermott to slot past Sean Daly. The second half followed a similar pattern with chances at a premium. Cockhill got their noses in front midway through the half after Tiernan Moran collected a loose ball and fed Paul Mullan who turned and fired low into the corner from fourteen yards. Dunree pressed hard to get back into the game but on 87 minutes a Liam Bradley cross was slotted home by McDermott to seal the points.

Greencastle Youths 0

 

The home side blasted out from the start and took an early lead when Joe Doherty squared the ball for Jayden McDaid to slot past Eunan Hegarty . They added another shortly after when Stephen Doherty advanced unmarked into the area to slot low to the corner.  A good run then from Lee Kelly ended when hr picked out Christopher McKinley to out pace the Greencastle defence and finish low past Hegarty. The home side were well on top at this stage good work from Joshue McDevitt saw his cross converted by Joe Doherty. Greencastle tried to reply with John Doherty seeing a goalbound effort deflected wide of the mark. But the home side added two goals with a three minute spell before the break. Firstly Rhys Diver fed Joe Doherty inside the area and he sidestepped his man to drill home. On the stroke of half time McDevitt added the sicth goal with an excellent chip over the advancing Hegarty. There was much less action in the second half and Greencastles Ronan Doherty fired a free kick just over the bar before  John Doherty failed to hit the target when well placed inside the Glengad area. The closest the home side came to adding another goal was when a Patrick McLaughlin effort came crashing off the bar late on.

Carrowmena FC 1

In a lively opening the visitors were first to threaten on 13 minutes with Darragh Porter finding Ben Gill on the right hand side of the area but he drilled narrowly wide. Carrowmena then opened the scoring six minutes later  when Cathal Crumlish pulled the ball back to the edge of the area  where Paul Brennan met it in his stride to fire low past Kyrin Doherty. The home side got back on terms on the half hour when Lorcan McGonigles initial effort inside the area was blocked but he reacted quickest to see his follow up creep inside the right hand post past Brian Houghton. Clonmany started well after the break with both Niall & Mark Mclaughlin bringing good saves from Houghton. Carrowmena threatened on  55 minutes after a Keelan Henry cross found Crumlish who sidefooted wide at the back post. On the hour the home side were unlucky with a strong run from Niall McLaughlin from midfield before he laid the ball off to brother Mark but his effort came off the post and into the grateful arms of Houghton. Clonmany were well on top throughout the second half and substitute Tiernan McDonald drew two good saves from Houghton. The home side took the lead on 74 minutes after Gill broke clear on the right hand side and crossed for Mark McLaughlin to slot home from eight yards. They increased their lead from the penalty spot with McDonald converting after Mark Mclaughlin had been upended in the 80th minute. Clonmany then completed the scoring on 87 minutes when mark Mclaughlin cut in from the left hand side and squared for McGonigle to slot low to the corner from twelve yards.

Cockhill Colts 5

The visitors began the better with a Kieran McLaughlin dangerous cross headed clear by Christopher Ivors before Kevin McDaid failed to hit the target when well placed ten yards out.On 16 minutes McDaid saw a free kick from twenty five yards well saved by Roger McGilloway . Rashennys first threat on goal came midway through the half when Cormac Dillon sprayed the ball across midfield to Keelan Doherty who advanced and unleashed a powerul effort which Graham Doherty turned round the post. From the corner a James McConalogue headed was kicked off the line by Brian King. The home side continued to press with Ryan O Donnells long range looping effort saved by Doherty before a superb cross from John G Doherty just eluded Liam Grant  well positioned eight yards out. Cockhill rallied with a McDaid effort beaten away by McGilloway on 38 minutes.The visitors then broke the deadlock before half time after McLaughlins cross from the right found Darragh Lyons to slot home from ten yards. The Colts got off to a dream start on the resumption when they doubled their lead after a Cian Murphy cross broke into the path of Liam O Donnell to fire to the roof of the net from ten yards. Within minutes they had made it three one when the home defence failed to cut out a diagonal ball and McDaid took full advantage to slot past McGilloway. Rashenny did get back into the game when John G Doherty fired a twenty five yards free over the wall and past substitute James McGuinnes. Doherty then had a long range effort beaten away by McGuinness as the home side looked to further reduce the deficit. But the Colts made the points safe  on 78 minutes as a Lyons cross found Murphy who scored with  an excellent first time finish to the bottom corner. The colts completed the scoring in the 87th minute  when after several attempts inside the area were blocked the ball fell for Dylan McEleney to slot home from twelve yards.

 

Aileach Youths 1

Rashenny FC 8

 Thew home side took the lead in the 15th minute after a Leon Doherty effort was parried by Sam Coyle but the loose ball was slotted home by Aaron Doherty. But Rashenny evened things up  four minutes later after Patrick Doherty raced onto a long ball to shoot low past Dylan Clarke in the Aileach goal. Midway through the half Rashenny took the lead in fortuitous fashion when a cross cum shot from Conor McDaid sailed over Clarke to the roof of the net.  On the stroke of half time the visitors increased their advantage when Patrick Doherty collected a quick throw in inside the area and hooked the ball to the net from fifteen yards.  Doherty then completed his hat trick when he got on the end of McDaids cross to head to the roof of the net on 50 minutes. Oran McDevitt then capitalised on a defensive error to make it five one before he played the ball through for Doherty to add his fourth. McDevitt then beat the offside trap on 79 minutes to run clear and round Clarke before slotting home. Rashenny completed the scoring late on after good work from McDevitt  saw Shane Cregan score from close range.

 

Moville Res 0

Culdaff Res 5

Culdaff started on the front foot and  in the opening minutes both Billy Hume and Jack O Brien drew good saves from Rhys Kerr in the home goal. But the visitorsd opened the scoring on 11 minutes when Tiernan McGeoghaghan raced clear onto a ball over the top and fired home. At the other end Danny Murphy found space to unleash an effort but Patrick McLaughlin gathered well. Culdaff then doubled their lead on the half hour with Jack O’Brien crossing for Cadan Doherty to superbly head to the top corner. Culdaff continued to press after the break with Doherty  denied by another goo save from Kerr Then two goals in a  three minute spell ended the game as a  contest. On the hour Doherty advanced and crossed for O’Brien to slot low to the corner from ten yards. In a carbon copy move minutes later Doherty again crossed for O’Brien to sidefoot home from eight yards. Moville kept battling and Jordan Collins was denied by McLaughlin in the visitors goal. Culdaff ended the scoring in the final minute after O’Brien despatched a crisp twenty five yards effort low into the bottom corner to complete his hat trick.

Culdaff   ROVERS 8

Reversed to Caratra Park in excellent conditions on Sunday morning the experienced Rovers side began well. They opened the scoring on 6 minutes with Christopher McLaughlin intercepting a clearance and advancing to slot home. Rovers doubled their lead then on 18 minutes after John G McLaughlin rose highest at the back post to head home a Paul McLaughlin free. Carn were dealt a big blow minutes later as Ethan Doherty  was red carded for a late tackle. Culdaff made their numerical advantage count and added a third goal when Bryan McCandless added a close range finish after the Carn defence failed to clear their lines. They added a fourth before half time after Christopher McLaughlins corner was met with a downward header from Michael Coyle past Jack O’Brien. Culdaff extended their lead on the hour mark from another McLaughlin corner which was headed in at the near post by Gary Farren. Rivers were rampant at this stage and Christopher Mcaughlin added a sixth goal with a Bechamesque  finish from the half way line over the stranded  O’Brien.   Rovers continued to press and McLaughlins cross  found McCandless who finished well before substitute Mark Smith added number eight with a superb dinked finish from six yards.

The first half an hour was a close fought encounter with defences on top and neither side able to create a clear opening. The visitors broke the deadlock on 31 minutes when the home defence failed to clear allowing Mark Farren to feed Darren Harkin and he finished low past Christian Jackson. The second half was the complete opposite to the first with play swinging from end to end and goals aplenty. Illies levelled on 51 minutes with Shane Devlin displaying great control inside the area before laying the ball back for Neil Moran to hammer the ball low to the  bottom corner past Oisin Quigley. But the visitors regained the lead shortly after when Connaire Doherty scored with a superb lob from the edge of the area. Illies rallied and equalised on the hour mark from a Neil Moran corner which was superbly headed home by Henry Doherty. Redcastle were dealt a blow then after Conor McCallion was red carded for a second booking. Illies pressed on from this and took the lead for the first time on 68 minutes  with Dominic Coyle setting up Marty Coyle inside the area to finish well.  But Redcastle hit back and levelled the game on 78 minutes when Connaire Doherty ran onto a long ball to finish first time over the advancing Jackson. With the game in the balance it was the home side who snatched all three points when Marty Coyles corner was powerfully headed home by William McLaughlin.
