Clonmany opened the scoring after a quarter of an hour when Jack Doherty sent Watson the wrong way when converting from the spot after he himself had been impeded. They doubled the scoreline mid way through the half. The inrushing Dessie Doherty and the advancing Watson both challenged for a long forward delivery. The ball broke favourably for Doherty and he managed to force the ball home. Sea Rovers came more into the match after this with Gary Doherty prominent in midfield but it was the home side who came closest just before the break. Michael Harkin’s 20 yard shot was tipped over by Watson and from the resulting corner Jake Harkin headed over at the back post. Sea Rovers made a double substitution at half time and the introduction of John Doherty and Martin Ward helped their cause. On 53 minutes a Gary Doherty header broke to Tiernan Stevens and his rising shot cleared the crossbar. At the other end Dessie Riley’s header fell to Martin Kelly and he drove wide of a post at the second attempt. Clonmany almost got a third when Riley advanced and laid the ball back to John Porter whose curled shot hit a post before being cleared.
