Carn FC 3
QPS 1
Carn secured their first league points with a deserved win over a QPS side who battled very hard all through the game. The home side started really well and Caolan Doherty had an effort cleared off the line before Matthew McLaughlin fired wide. Then both Ronan Doherty and Declan McGonagle were denied by good saves from Oisin Burke. The deadlock was finally broken on 32 minutes when Brandon Browne broke clear on the left and fired a low shot across Burke to the far corner. They made it two nil eight minutes after the break when Browne released Matthew McLaughlin and he finished well low past Burke. With the aid of the wind QPS forced the home side back for long periods but they failed to trouble Daniel Houghton in the home goal and Chris Monteith had two long range efforts just wide. They got a lifeline on 85 minutes when Raymond Buchanan was upended in the area allowing Monteith to calmly slot low to Houghtons left. But Carn killed off any hopes of a comeback when substitute Dion Diver broke on the right and crossed to Cathal Doherty who laid the ball back for Darragh Deery to drive low to the corner and in the process seal the points.
