Aileach Youths             1

Redcastle started well and had chances though Stephen Davenport and Terry Mc Colgan but both failed to hit the target.  Ryan Mc Daid had a long range effort for Aileach but failed to keep his shot down.  Davenport then turned inside the box but his rising effort cleared the bar. James Breslin was then denied by Clarke in the Aileach goal who blocked a goal bound effort with his legs. Clarke was alert again soon after denying Michael Bonner with a smart save. Redcastle’s pressure eventually told when Shane Mc Colgan fired a well struck left footed effort to the top corner from just inside the box.  Evan Craig then crossed for James Breslin  to head powerfully home. Aileach got a goal back before halftime when Patrick Curran crossed for McDaid to slot home. Redcastle started the second half on the front foot and increased their lead when Davenport headed a Craig corner home from close range. Both teams cancelled each other out for a period after this,  with defences on top. As full time approached James

Breslin headed another Craig corner wide while Joe Mc Laughlin scooped the ball over from close range for the visitors.

Sea Rovers                             2

Played on Wednesday night in Maginn Park Redcastle started well and had a number of chances but were unable to make them count. Harry Mc Quillian and  Brendan Murphy had the best of the Redcastle opportunities,  Mc Quillian fired over under pressure from the Sea Rovers keeper while Murphy saw his shot blocked by the keeper’s legs. Rovers best chance of the half came from an inswinging corner that was headed wide by Damian Ward. Redcastle appealed for a penalty as half time approached when Sean Curran was bundled  over but play was waived on. Sea Rovers began the second half with a strong  wind at their backs and they made this count  ten minutes in when Pauric  Doherty fired a shot past Mc Cole from thirty five  yards.  Redcastle pushed forward after this setback and Murphy saw a shot strike the base of the post and back into the keeper’s arm. As the half progressed Curran saw an effort cleared away while Joe Mc Cauley was unable to find the target as his shot cleared the bar. Rovers defended with purpose and eventually sealed the points when Ward received the ball from a corner and drilled home high to the net from twenty five yards.

The visitors had the first opportunity when Josh Mclaughlin’s goal boundshot from Gavin Grant’s cross was blocked by defender in the first minute. Mc Laughlin threatened again when Redcastle lost the ball in midfield but Mc Cole rescued the home side with a full stretch save. Redcastle’s Harry Mc Quillian then set up Sean Curran but he dragged his shot wide when well placed. The visitors took the lead when Jack Mc Connellogue caught the home defence napping to slot home. Colm Mc Laughlin replied for the home side and had a header cleared off the line from a Mc Quillan corner. Redcastle tried to get more into the game as the second half began and from a Eunan Mullen corner McQuillan’s goal bound effort was cleared away to safety. The Muff side side were still dangerous on the break and a Seamus Doherty block prevented a certain goal after the home keeper spilled a high ball. Joe Mc Cauley got Redcastle back in the game when he fired a rocket to the top corner to drag the home side level. Buoyed by this Redcastle pushed for a
winner but they were left to rue a number of near misses. The visitors were reduced to ten men on seventy five minutes and were now under constant pressure from the home side. Redcastle couldn’t make the required breakthrough and the Muff men could have won the game on the break when Josh Mclaughlin was denied by a great Mc Cole save.
