Oscar Traynor Match Report
Inishowen League 2-1 Donegal League
Inishowen secured their second victory in the Oscar Traynor Trophy on Saturday night at Maginn Park defeating the Donegal League and once again it was a late goal that sealed the points Inishowen suffered a blow in the first minute when Culdaff’s Dillon Ruddy was on the receiving end of a James Melly rash tackle and had to be replaced by Greencastle’s Shaun Doherty Inishowen created a opening on 11 min when Culdaff’s Brendan Mc Laughlin had a curling shot held by Mark Gallagher in the Donegal net, on 15 min Donegal’s Pa Jo Rafferty shot brought a fine save from Kevin Mc Laughlin in the Inishowen but he could only parry it and the ball broke to Damian Crossan whose first effort was blocked by Glengad’s John G Mc Laughlin and his second was deflected into the path of keeper Mc Laughlin, at the other end Terence Doherty broke clear and chipped the ball over the advancing Gallagher only for the linesman’s flag to rule it offside, Inishowen keeper Mc Laughlin was in action moments later to deny Donegal making a brilliant save from Rafferty’s header following a free by Meely, another free by Meely was off target and Inishowens Brendan Mc Laughlin put a free wide at the other end Inishowen made the breakthrough on 40min when Terence Doherty ran onto a long clearance from Greencastle’s Michael Barr to poke home past Gallagher to give the home side a narrow 1-0 lead at half time, Donegal had another chance early in the second half when a Meely free was headed wide by Paul Sweeney, then Doherty’s searching ball across the box was saved by Gallagher, Donegal were pushing hard for the equaliser and it eventually paid off with about twenty minutes remaining this time Melly’s free was driven in low across the box and Ciaran Mc Geady got enough on it to divert it into the net, Terence Doherty then had a header saved by Gallagher as both teams went looking for the winner with time running out Inishowen struck the killer blow when Culdaff’s Mc Laughlin found Aileach’s Anthony Doherty on as a sub out on the right his low cross into the area was met by Terence Doherty to slot home for his second of the night and secure the victory for Inishowen, Donegal’s night got worse when Michael Doherty was shown a red card as the game ended
