Jackie Crossan Premier Division

Glengad United                 3

Greencastle FC                  3

Greencastle ‘s bid to record a perfect sixteen league wins from sixteen just failed although in the end they needed a last gasp penalty to salvage their unbeaten record.

Glengad stunned the league champions in the first half and raced into a two goal interval lead after captain John G McLaughlin scored twice the second a fine header from a corner past Dylan Doherty. But Greencastle showed the mettle of champions and upped the tempo on the restart. Matthew Henry  gave them a lifeline on 58 minutes when he pulled one back and then Michael Barr rose high to head home  a James Henry cross on 73minutes to level the game. But the home side regained the lead from the penalty spot on 81 minutes after Stephen McLaughlin had  been upended in the area with James McKinney keeping his nerve to convert from the spot. Greencastle threw caution to the wind and in the closing minutes were awarded a contentious penalty after Christy Hegarty was deemed to have been fouled  and Barr fired high to Kevin McLaughlin’s left to seal a point and preserve their unbeaten record in an entertaining game.
