Saturday 3rd November

Oscar Traynor Inter League Trophy Ballyare 7.30pm

Donegal League           v                 Inishowen League

With this weekend designated as a free weekend by the FAI due to the  men and womens FAI cup finals Inishowen began their campaign with a tough away game against their neighbours.

With only  the winners progressing from the three team group it will be imperative to get off to a good start. The management team have taken a different approach by organising a trial game and have looked at almost thirty players to date and there will be new faces in the squad. The experience will come from the likes of Dillan Doherty, Seamus Houghton, Matthew Byrne, John G McLaughlin, Matthew Henry, Kieran McDaid and Terence Doherty but there is a whole raft of younger players who have staked a claim to be included. Inishowen defeated the Saturday Morning League by four goals to two and will have a couple of training sessions in advance of the game. Other players like Adam Byrne, Conor Barrow, Shaun & Gavin Doherty, Dillon Ruddy and Ferghal Harkin will all be competing to be included. New faces to emerge this season have been  Buncrana’s Kevin O’Loughlin, Aileach’s Darren McMonagle, Darren Gallagher, Dermot Doherty and Thomas McMackin, Redcastle’s Aiden McLaughlin, Illies Paul Doherty Carn’s Ryan Kelly and Greencastle’s Jamie McCormick while the return of Shaun Doherty  to the fold demonstrates the difficulty in even selecting the eighteen man panel. Players of the calibre of Anthony Doherty, Nigel McMonagle, Brendan McLaughlin and Thomas McMonagle are all unavailable this year and there are one or two others  who have not been able to attend due to work commitments. But it shows the depth of talent in the league and hopefully they can embark on another adventure in this prestigious competition.
